Sentiment is a newcomer band from the land of the 1000 lakes, Finland, playing a superb mixture of classic hard rock and in-your-face heavy metal tunes.

BIOGRAPHY:

Sentiment was formed in 1996, by Jami (drums) and Toni (guitar) Huovinen. At first the band started with a progressive angle, but soon changed their style into more straightforward melodic metal with a lot of hard rock influences.

The current line up was reached after countless member changes. Michael Henneken (ex-Silent Voices, vocals) joined forces with the Huovinen brothers (Jami - drums and Toni - guitars) in 2004 and it was then that they recorded the "Breaking the Chains"-promo disc.

They started to write new material and began searching for a new bass player and a keyboardist soon after. Kari Tornack (ex-Thunderstone, ex-Tunnelvision, ex-Mannerheim, keyboards) decided to join the band in the summer of 2007, after promising to handle live shows in 2005 for as long as Sentiment finds a permanent replacement for their previous keyboardist. Janne Laaksonen (Kilpi) took over the bass at the beginning of 2008.

Sentiment started the recordings of their first album, "From Here To Ever After", in December of 2005 after deciding to finance it themselves, due to the poor contracts offered by several record labels.

The band has opened shows to bands like Stratovarius, Kotipelto, Terasbetoni and Kilpi, and thanks to their connections to the Helsinki's metal scene, they managed to get Jens Johansson (Stratovarius, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, ex-David Lee Roth, ex-Dio) to contribute a solo to the album and the bands close friend Tero "Mc Spain" Kostermaa to record and to co-produce it. Also Timo Kotipelto, Pasi Rantanen, Jarkko Ahola, Sami Virtanen, Anssi Stenberg, Pasi Nykanen and Thomas Nystrand have contributed to build Sentiment's first album.

"From Here To Ever After" is not just a great album in the classic sense, but also a statement of a new major-player on the heavy metal / hard rock scene. From the in-your-face metal tunes like opener "The Dark Side" and "From Here To Ever After", over the neo-classical power metal songs such as "The Black Star", to the classic hard rock songs like "The Last Day" and the power-ballad "Mourning Light".

Michael Henneken - vocals

Year Of Birth? - 1976

When Did You Start Playing? - I was 14 years old. We did a gig in school playing original music written by the guitar player of the band. It was kind of AC/DCiesh.

Why Did You Start Playing? - The thing is that I started playing drums and played for 7 years but always ended up singing in bands because there always was plenty of drummers but no singers. So at one point I just decided to do singing full time and gave up playing drums.

What Do You Like To Do On Your Freetime? - Free time? What's that? :-)

Favourite Bands? - I tend to listen to a lot of 70's and '80 stuff like Deep Purple, Rainbow, Dio- and Martin-era Sabbath, Whitesnake, Kansas and so forth. But there's some exceptions like Dream Theater, Symphony X, anything Jorn Lande does ...

Favourite Vocalists? - Loads ... Ronnie James is amazing ... Jeff Scott Soto is also very good. Jorn Lande and Russel Allen are also my all time favourites and of course David Coverdale. Oh and David Readman!

Describe Yourself In Three Words? - Passionate, forgetful and sometimes even tolerable ...

Where Do You See Yourself In 10 Years? - It's either a coffin or doing music. Hehehe ... Hope to make a living out of it someday.

Equipment You Use? - Shure microphones and personal monitoring.

Janne Laaksonen - bass

Year Of Birth? - 1974

When Did You Start Playing? - At the age of 12.

Why did you start playing? - As a child I was a huge Kiss-fan, I wanted to be like them. I was very into the early 80's NWOBHM-bands and American hairbands like W.A.S.P. and Motley Crue. Spandex-heavy started it all ...

What Do You Like To Do On Your Freetime? - I have a family and old house what needs constant repairing, so no freetime problems really, but I'm quite active in several coverbands and I play badminton with my son.

Favourite Bands? - Kiss is still number one after all these years, but I've widened my musical view. Hairbands are still there, but so are The Beatles, Depeche Mode, ABBA, Sheryl Crow, Eagles, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Black Crowes, Amy Winehouse and many many others.

Favourite Bassists? - I´m not that into any instrumentalist, but I love Yngwie J. Malmsteen's guitar playing. I have had the priviledge to open two shows for him.

Describe Yourself In Three Words? - Loud, mostly stupid.

Where Do You See Yourself In 10 Years? - I can support me and my family with music, hopefully with Sentiment!

Equipment You Use? - I have four great basses I play depending on my mood or music, but my main bass is B.C. Rich Warlock wich I custom ordered over ten years ago. Others are Gibson Thunderbird, Sale Custom Guitars Warlock and Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi Bass.
- As amplifiers I have Ampeg SVT and other Ampeg tubeamps with Ampeg cabinets.
- When needed, I use Tech 21 Sans Amp distortion.
